Hi to everyone,

I am new to this. I found a small area at 12:00 on my r side and it has been within a few days of being a year with the diagnoses of cancer. I was 42 at the time. I had a double mastectomy and sentinel lymph biopsies done. My final diagnoses was genetic test were neg and the lymphs were neg. No chemo or radiation, only Tamoxifen daily for 5 years. I had reconstruction done and now I have found a new lump. I worked as a Vet Tech and with very skilled doctors. I had them to ultrasound the area and they did a FNA to check the cells. What do you think would happen.... but of course the cells are suspicious. By the way the lump is extremely close to the original area. I was supposed to be cured. Waiting on doctors now.  Any thoughts?

I think an experienced breast pathologist should look at the biopsy and also consult your breast surgeon from your dx a year ago. I am hoping the best for you.

I'm sorry that you are going through this.  Unfortunately, although the risk is low, it is possible to have a recurrence after a mastectomy.

I am unclear about your original diagnosis.  Did you have invasive cancer (IDC) or did you have in situ ductal carcinoma (DCIS)?  Those are two different types of cancer.  It is possible to have both, but in that case, the diagnosis and staging and treatment is based on the IDC, which is the more serious condition.  And what was the Stage of your diagnosis?  Pure DCIS is always Stage 0 but if someone has invasive cancer (either on it's own or in combination with DCIS), then the stage is at least Stage I.

I agree that you need to have a breast pathologist test the cells.  Have you been in touch with either your breast surgeon or your oncologist about this?

Did anyone have to reduce Arimidex dose from 1mg to 0.5 mg? Thanks, MAGf
