Question
I had a sm red bump that started last Monday Jan 6th on Tuesday it started to get bigger and hurt I called the Dr on Thursday and made a appointment for Friday, by Friday the redness was the whole side of my right breast, extremely painful and I had a hole the size of a pencil eraser in the middle of the redness the Dr started me on antibiotics on Friday and I went back to see her yesterday, Mon Jan 13th. The infection is getting better but the hole is bigger, and the pain is still horrible.
Does IBC get "better" with antibiotics?
She ordered a mammogram and a ultra sound ASAP.
Any thoughts?
Does IBC progress this fast?
Thanks for any information.

CRDCX4,
Hoping this is an infection, instead of ibc. I've heard your breast does not become better with antibiotics. It's good you are having an ultrasound. That is how mine was detected. I was not in pain, but had a lot of itching and redness.

CRDCX4,
Antibiotics aren't effective against IBC. Unfortunately, IBC can appear very quickly -- mine magically appeared overnight 3 months after a totally negative mammogram. I had no pain, but IBC presents in so many different ways you can't go by any set of symptoms. I really hope you have an infection but also think your doctor is doing the right thing in recommending a thorough work up.
Take care,
bride

Thank you both for the information,
I have a appointment for the mammogram and ultrasound on Tuesday.
When I say the infection is getting better what I mean is the redness is now a shade of purple the hole is not oozing as much but the hole is bigger ( I could put the tip of my pinkie in it ) the pain is like my skin is ripping apart, and now I am supper itchy.
I have had a lump removed 3 years ago same breast it was fibroadenoma.
Waiting is the hard part.

I'm not familiar with IBC at all, but your post caught my eye because of the description of your symptoms. I know someone who had something similar-sounding, on the underside of her breast. It sort of popped up very quickly - red, hot, painful, and the "hole" in the center. Does your doctor think it looks like an infection? My friend actually had MRSA, and quick treatment with the right antibiotics made all the difference for her (I'm not suggesting that's what you have, just that what you've described sounds so much like an infection). I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and hope and pray that this turns out to be a benign breast infection (and also that the antibiotics start to work quickly!) Good luck!

I am IBC. Based on my experience, it does not sound like you're dealing with IBC. Sounds like an infection - IBC is not an infection.
IBC can/does progress rapidly. For me, it literally was not presenting itself one night but the next night I had an enlarged lymphnode under arm. I never had any pain nor did I have an area that opened up and oozed. It was less than a month between finding the enlarged node and starting neoadjuvant chemo. It was less than 2 months after my last clear mammo when the node enlarged.

Thank you all !
The results came back and it is not MRSA- I guess we just wait for the next set of tests.

Well, the good news is that it's not MRSA - that is a difficult and nasty infection. Now, let's keep our fingers crossed that it's something that can be easily treated - and is NOT breast cancer! Good luck and do, please, let us know how you're doing!
