Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice to help my sister select a comfortable prosthesis.  She has not worn prosthesis because she found them to be hot and heavy and overall uncomfortable.  The problem is that because she is flat on top but has a 'muffin top', it looks like her breasts have just dropped down to her abdomen area.  I understand that there have been a lot of improvements in material and weight of prostheses since 2008 and I was hoping some of you could provide advice based on your experience and/or knowledge.  She is willing to pay for comfort so we don't want to rule out any options based on price.  Thanks for your help.

Have you checked to see if there are any women's specialty shops near you?  This is where I went and they were able to show me a wide variety that were available.  Every woman's preferences are different and this lets you see them first hand and even try them out in the store.

Hi Coltsneck, I agree with Bayoubabe, it is really important to go to an experienced fitter if at all possible.

There are so many options out there for prosthesis, some women opt to go for a lightweight foam, or a weighted micro bead. Then there are the Silicone Prosthesis available from several companies. There are also Contact forms, which adhere to the skin.

It is important to get the right shape Prosthesis too. A fitter has been trained in all those aspects. A good well fitting bra will help to make the forms feel more comfortable too.

    Hi Coltsneck!

Check out some good info from the main Breastcancer.org site on Prosthetics: An Alternative to Reconstruction.

Also, there's another thread in this forum, All things bras & prosthesis, that includes many members' experiences and preferences.

    Hope this helps!

I've found that foam prosthesis pads stuffed with fiberfill and worn in a cami are very comfortable. I did get a whipped silicone prostheses which looks so natural and weighs less than my breasts did.

I agree with Ariom, a certified fitter will really help! There are so many options.
