Hi I got the call my results are in, but they said they never give results over phone and want me to come in, personally myself I just got back to work after lumpectomy, doing radiation.. and really can't play with time missing work. My job is already letting do an hour a day for radiation. I asked counselor can they see me between the times of my treatment, they're not open at that time. So I said well we may have to wait until next month. My thinking is if its positive it is what it is, nothing is going to change in a month. But right when I became ok with my new dx, and find with radiation, now I'm worried what is the results. Have anyone been forced to have a hysterectomy or mastectomy? Like do they really push the issue of doing these two surgeries?

No they dont push but they will give you statistics and recommendations.   No one can force you to  do anything.

I know it's left up to that individual, but it seems like all I hear is removal of ovaries and mastectomy... Don't know if I'm ready to go there yet.

Hi, I have the BRCA2 mutation. The doctors strongly suggested removing ovaries (and really, the full hysterectomy) since ovarian cancer is difficult to detect. I will proceed with this once my adventure with BC is done. Fyi, I'm 41 so this will induce me into menopause. For breasts, they just discussed options: mastectomy, regular monitoring (mammograms & MRIs), or tamoxiphen. I opted for monitoring and this first mammogram + subsequent biopsy found DCIS in both breasts, so I was happy to catch this BC early due to the BRCA2 dx. BC is much easier to detect, so I don't think they will push you to do something you don't want. Jut my opinion! Good luck and keep us informed!

Thank you!  I'll be 48, and I know menopause is right around the corner as the hot flashes are here. I will be taking tamoxinfin  after radiation. But if you have your ovaries removed what's the point of still doing the hormone drugs? I don't understand that

sloy---my situation is different in that I didn't have invasive bc (I have LCIS and family history of bc--my mom had ILC; lumpectomy, radiation and tamoxifen and is a survivor of over 27 years without a recurrence!); but I did end up with a TAH/BSO (at nearly 48, not by choice; I had ovarian rupture)  and the immediate surgical menopause. I did continue on with the tamox for another 3.5 years to finish up my 5 full years. The reason for it is that estrogen is not just produced in the ovaries; it is also produced in the adrenal glands, skin and fat.
