Great question, curveball! It looks like our immune system sometimes has to be taught to recognize cancer cells. That would be my guess as an answer. I notice that the article mentioned only radiotherapy and surgery (unless I missed something) although lots of tumor cell shedding takes place during chemotherapy. I suppose chemo is killing the cells that get into the bloodstream whereas this may be less likely to happen with RT and surgery. Also chemo may be teaching our immune cells to recognize cancer as I've read elsewhere.

My question is sort of related to yours in that our body has ist own sticky factors for say wound healing, so I wonder if one effect of vigorous exercise is to increase the "rough and tumble" in the bloodstream, making our sticky factors more likely to bump into the cancer cells and decimate them in this way.
