Worrying myself to bits.
Hi all,
I hope I'm not going to bore anyone with my story so here goes.
Over 2 years ago I discovered a painful lump on the right of my breast which moved slowly to under my nipple, but being a stubborn man as I am I have never been to the doctors about it and hid it from my wife until a few months ago as for the last year or so its been very painful to touch. It feels like whatever the lump was has formed into a hardish disc like shape under my left nipple. Just recently tho the pain has been like a throbbing annoying pain which has spread into my shoulder and back, taking painkillers do the trick in the short term. My nipple has also puffed out like a woman's nipple would which I though could be gynaecomastia but I'm not aware that pain could be associated with it. Maybe its cysts? But I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to suck it up and go to my GP which I'm booked in for on Monday afternoon. I'm so worried that I've left it too long and its cancer , I'm only 33 and I don't know if myself or my wife or my kids could deal with it.

Getting it checked out is the right thing to do. If your doctor doesn't call for a mammogram and ultrasound then press him to have that done as well. I was told by my GP that is was a lypoma and I had nothing to worry about. It took 2 years for me to get properly diagnosed. The good news is that this is typically a slow growing cancer so if it is cancer, you still have a good chance for successful treatment.
About your lump... is it bulging outward or is it pulling skin inward? Has there been any discharge? I know that discharge or dimpling (pulling skin inward) are signs that it is more than likely cancer.
Good luck and let us know what the Dr says.

Yeah my GP has refered me to the breast screening clinic after a quick inspection. Ive had no discharge at all so fingers crossed its not something more serious, but it will be a nervous wait untill tests are carried out and i have the results. In regards to the nipple its self , its puffed outwards and with no dimmpling so once again im hopeful it wont be the dreaded C but time will tell. Thanks for the reply
,
Will keep you updated when i have my results back after my scan.

If you saw a guy point a gun at you would you just stand there? tests are available, and the sooner you catch it the better. the tests aren't something you cant stand, when I went through them, there weren't any that I couldn't stand, some I would prefer not to have every day, but not that bad. and if the tests come up negative, just think how much better you will feel.
