Working after cancer

Not looking to give a long drawn out sob story , but I would like info on going to work after cancer. Aug '12 I lost my brother and job on the same day. I hated my job so I wasn't bent out of shape about it and had to focus on planning a funeral as well as coming up with the money to pay for it. I thought once everything was settled I would get another but a month later I was diagnosed with cancer. I didn't want to get a new job with having to face all the upcoming treatments and surgeries, so I didn't look for work and just focused on beating cancer. Chemo, mastecomy ,rad and reconstruction complete in Nov. So my question is how was returning to work? Did anyone get a new job? Did you disclose your cancer? How did you explain the gap in between employment ?? And any other info would be greatly appreciated. I will be 27 in a few months and really look forward to starting a career and would love one that was meaningful as giving back to other cancer patients.

My goodness, you have been throughout the mill.

I think honesty is always the best course of action. You have been through a very rough period, have coped admirably, have survived & are now ready to move forward with your life. If I was interviewing you, that would definitely be a plus mark.

Best of luck with everything. After what you've been through, this should be easy!

thank you and yes honesty is key, I just don't want to be treated or looked at any differently. I know legally they can not discriminate but don't want them thinking I can't do my job if offered one.
