tumor markers elevated

I'm so scared.  My mom just celebrated 5 years as a breast cancer survivor in August and now she is scheduled to go for bone and CT scans this Thursday because her CA 15-3 tumor markers are elevated.  I'm so incredibly worried.  Is there any chance it could be something other that a return of the cancer?  Has anyone else experienced this and had a positive outcome?  I'm such a wreck worrying about my mom.  She originally had stage 3, hormone receptive breast cancer.  I'm so worried that a recurrence would mean she is now stage 4 and not a good prognosis.  Please share something positive with me!!

    Regarding elevated tumor markers....Please stay positive, stage 4 just means it has gone to another location and they get more aggressive with the treatment. Keep in mind breast cancer has more treatment options than any other kind of cancer!

    imjill, tumor markers only work for some women.  For others they are completely random.  This could very easily be one of those times.  The scans will tell.

    Remember, worry doesn't help tomorrow, it only ruins today.
