Mammogram after Lumpectomy

I had my last lumpectomy in April of 2013. Have done 6 weeks of Radiation, and am now on the generic form of Arimidex. My Oncologist said I can wait until April to have another mammogram. I am still tender in that breast. I'd like to know if anyone found their mammogram a year after their surgery to be painful. Mammograms never bothered me before. But I'm so nervous about having one now.

Thanks,

Debbie

I hate to tell you this, but I'll be honest.  My first mammogram - six months after my last radiation treatment - was very, very uncomfortable; however, the techs know that this is an issue and it was the fastest mammo I've ever had in my life!  The tech was really good and compassionate.  For my second mammo this year, the discomfort level was back to "normal".

Hi Debbie, I don't recall having any specific problem with mammography after the three lumpectomies I had, one after the other. (Surgery was done in August and October and mammo at the end of May (so 6 months later).  My breasts were always sore beforehand, so maybe that's why I can't tell a difference.  They did most of the magnifications on the other breast because they spotted a problem, so maybe that's why I didn't focus on that breast.  So, now you have two opinions.  Hopefully, it'll go OK and they will be sensitive to you.

Thanks so much! I appreciate the information. I hope you have had good results with your recent mammogram.

I agree with SelenaWolf - the 6 month mammo, which in my case was 3 months after radiation wasn't unbearable, but yes, it was painful. The one after a year was marginally more uncomfortable on that side than the other, but not really much different.
