My prosthetic breast is quite uncomfortable. Any suggestions?

I'm returning to work 1/2 time this week. And so I'm wearing my prosthetic breast more often. The tissue was severely damaged by radiation but looks like it's all healed. The tissue where the breast was removed is gnarly and scarred, but doesn't typically look inflamed.

It seems like I can go a 1/2 day wearing it with not much problem. It starts to get uncomfortable around the 3.5 hour mark. If I take it off by 4 hours or so, I can avoid the back and neck pain and more irritation on the mastectomy site. On days when I have to work a full day, my discomfort is really disruptive and distracting. And of course really uncomfortable.

Has anyone else had to tackle this? Any suggestions? I just finished radiation in September, will this get better with time??

mummommamma, your skin will get better with time and you will be able to wear the prosthetic for much longer with comfort. In the mean time, rather than the heavy prosthetic could you make yourself a micro bead softy which will be softer on your damaged skin and lighter on your shoulder and neck. It will still give you the right shape and there is a pattern and instructions right here in this forum.........try doing a search using micro bead as your search words and see how you go.

    Hope this helps.

    mummommama,

I purchased a micro bead set of foobs from Mary at www.mastectomysolutions.com . She is a fabulous lady and makes these herself . They are light weight, very reasonable and high quality. I primarily go flat but have these "just in case ". Hope this helps !!

Thank you, ladies! I'll look into that option!
