Resistance to breast cancer treatment tied to mutations in estrogen receptor

A type of mutation that develops after breast cancer patients take antiestrogen therapies has been identified. These mutations help to explain why patients often become resistant to these types of therapies.

cp418 you are such a help. My wife is a well "recovering" Stage 4 from dx. She's NED for now but her oncologist said that won't last. Maybe 5 years max.

So if they found mutations in estrogen receptors that void all the good the estrogen blockers are doing why not take BZA and do away with the estrogen receptors altogether. Maybe take both estrogen blockers and BZA. I'm no doctor so what do I know. Quote below from the original article about BZA's possible cancer fighting abilities.

We are all anxiously waiting for when Pfizer will start their clinical trials for BZA on breast cancer patients.  Hoping it will be soon.  Have you seen the recent news about cholesterol – breast cancer link also from Duke University/ Medical School?  There have been articles in the past regarding statins and breast cancer.  Try GOOGLE for simvastatin or lovastatin and breast cancer.  See research articles referring to cell lines MCF-7 for estrogen postive cancer versus MDAMB231 or MDAMB468 cell lines for estrogen negative cancer research.  Also, not all statins are alike in that simvastatin and lovastatin used in the research are lipophilic and achieved the best results.  Pravastatin is hydrophilic and has a better safety profile but did not show the same anti-cancer response.

Likewise, you will see articles with negative results – so more studies are needed.  Maybe since these are already approved medications they may be another option for us in the interim……
