This really would be an incredible breakthrough. Next question- which cancer types will metastasize and why?

Exciting! I wonder if my tissue could be examined retroactively so I could know how aggressive I should be about monitoring.

I'll get excited when it really happens. Unfortunately, too many things that are supposed to be "breakthroughs" are never heard from again.

The possible significance of αvβ6 is not a new discovery.

From 2008:

De novo expression of αvβ6 integrin by myoepithelial cells in ductal carcinoma in situ may be an important marker of disease progression

Like Leah, I've seen a lot of "breakthroughs" over the years. I currently have 27 articles bookmarked under the heading "DCIS to IDC Progression" and most of those articles talk about a different study with a different breakthrough finding.

The good news here is that this study seems to provide similar results to a previous study, so that, at least, is progress.
