Terms on pathology reports re: sclerosing adenosis in particular

I've noticed that a number of folks have posted "sclerosing adenosis" in the field describing their diagnosis. FYI, in case you are new to all this or in case your caregiver did not explain the significance of the term "sclerosing adenosis" on a pathology report, it is not indicative of specific disease. It is not predictive of a developing condition and is nothing that requires treatment. As my surgeon relayed, "it's merely the scientific term for aging breast tissue and nearly all women over a certain age will exhibit sclerosing adenosis to some degree regardless of whether they have other forms of breast disease and regardless of their risk for breast cancer." Those 2 words in particular are nothing to be concerned about.

Yes, I was told that if it is an additional risk factor it is very slight. It does tend to look like cancer on mammograms though. They probably wouldn't have found my LCIS had the SA lesion not shown up.

I had some of that, small amount, that showed on ultrasound, not on mammo.  I was told it had a slight increase in my risk but that it was a common finding in women.

For the record, putting it in the signature line lets other new women who don't understand their path report find someone with a like diagnosis who can explain it. That's why it is in mine.
