Swimming after breast cancer

I've taken up regular swimming and it is very relaxing.

It feels like it must be good for flexibility and exercising muscles you don't use in other activities. Also the water pressure might help reduce the risk of lymphoedema.

Surprised there isn't a thread here about this? Or have I missed it?

BlueFox, the article Exercise Safely (among others) from the main Breastcancer.org site talks about swimming, and many other activities. To look for threads where swimming is mentioned or featured, check the Search link from the blue menu, with swim or swimming as your keyword. image

I hate swimming but cant run as havent found a supportive bra for running that is comfortable. Since I have begun, i am finding i have less movement and pain/ache down my arm. Not happy.

I swim a couple of times a week. It really helped me get mobility back in my arms following my BMX. My BS, MO & LE therapist think it's the best thing I could be doing. It does trigger a pain in my armpit. I would rather be running but injuries have me sidelined.

I wasn't give any exercise guidelines following or during treatment. Just told to stay as active as possible. Hope you're healing well & keep swimming!
