PET Scan Results - mixed information
Hello friends! I am not sure where this topic belongs so sorry if it is in the wrong catagory - I think I just need a moment to vent and cry at the same time. I was diagnosed with a localized recurrance on September 3rd. It is in my lymph nodes and my left breast although I had a Diep flap reconstruction so it is not even breast tissue. I had a PET scan on Monday and the nurse from the MO's office called and said the numbers on the Su Var are coming down from 9 - 5 and we want you to be at 3 but that is good news and we are happy with the results and we can see there is no more signs of the spread to your femur, which showed up in August but they think it might have been cleared up with the 2 forms of chemo I am on. Fantastic, we go into the new year on somewhat of a high note - you know living 90 days at a time between scans.
Today I saw the breast surgeon and she confirmed what they said on my PET scan from the MO's office but said the tumor mass had actually grown from 2.5 to 4.5 CM in less than a month and I now have a 2nd tumor - in the same breast.
How did I get pretty good news on Monday only to be told today we may have to do surgery on Tuesday and they are not sure if they can even touch my lymph nodes, which are confirmed they do have cancer in them, becaue they are so enlarged.
I don't even have time for a 2nd opinion, especially if things are seriously growing that fast. I have tried not to be down and roll with the punches about this but today's information may make my head explode.
My BS is meeting with the MO and I am waiting for confirmation of the surgery on Tuesday - if the MO doesn't have a miracle chemo then it will be surgery. The BS isn't wild about the surgery option with everything being so large right now and would prefer more chemo to shrink everything and she said it is much harder to go back and get the lymp nodes later. So I had a Diep Flap in June and now I am going to have another mastectomy on the left side (which isn't called a mastectomy when you have no breat tissue - who knew) and I have left a message to see if it makes sense just to take them both because where the heck is this coming from especially since my breasts no longer have breat tissue.
Ok, I think I am done. Thank you to anyone out there listening. My inner circle says they understand but I think they are stressing me out, unintentionally, right now so I needed to see what everyone else thinks or if anyone has any historyt they can share.
