Phone just rang - I looked at the caller ID and it said "Breast Cancer."  I assumed it was my breast surgeon calling me back, so I picked it up.  It was the Breast Cancer Awareness group calling to solicit a donation for women battling breast cancer ... really?  Really?  How ironic.  LOL  I told the gal that as one of the newly diagnosed, I would be happy to donate to the cause.  She was speechless for a minute - I thought she'd hung up.  I bet she doesn't get that response too often - awkward!  Happy

Ha...ironic indeed, I felt the same way in October being asked for donations towards BC at my grocery store, etc. I probably wouldn't have made a donation over the phone though, I'm always so skeptical that those donations actually go towards the cause...

I find it very ironic that "breast cancer" was calling.

However, I get calls about monthly from some organization or another soliciting in support of breast cancer. I kindly tell them I have made my donation, I am a BC patient/survivor. They have a script for that. Usually, "I am sorry for your situation, thank you for taking your time to speak with me, wishing you good health"...or something like that. Not one has offered to put me on their recipient lists.

    LOL

LOL I actually got the same about 2 weeks after my BMX.

I had been going thru a 3 day stretch of not being able to sleep more than an hour or so at a time and I had FINALLY managed to fall asleep into a really good sleep, with dreams and a comfortable and everything and....

    The phone rang.

I'm normally a nice person, truly I am. But I was so grouchy about being woken up for this particular reason at this particular time that I told the lady "I appreciate your call but I just donated both my boobs to the cause two weeks ago, and I don't HAVE any others," and hung up on her.

I feel kind of bad about that....but I also giggle at it because I can't believe I said that. Poor lady.

I used to get tons of calls from questionable organizations right after my BMX.

I would say I had BC, and that I'd already donated two breasts, and I thought that was probably enough. But perhaps they could send ME some money?

Sadly, I got very little in the way of sensitivity from the callers.

Mostly I got "Sorry to bother you." CLICK!

At least my DH and I could laugh about it...

You know, all this is starting to make me wonder if somehow we're being added to a database of "likely to donate due to diagnosis." If so, that's pretty cheesy.

Got the pledge card and a number of calls from the Breast Cancer Society following up on my donation and asking where it was.  I decided before I sent the money in, to do a check on the company.  So glad I did - total scam:

Coincidentally, while I was doing my research, they called again to follow up on my donation.  I got on the phone with the lady and read her the riot act.  Nearly all of the money they get from donations goes to the salaries of the founders.  Told her I would not be donating anything and to remove my name and number from their calling list.  These people should be ASHAMED of themselves.
