I found out today thatI have both invasive and noninvasive breast cancer. They think I am stage 2, but I won't know for sure until after my mastectomy. The tumor grade is 3. It is a relief to know. I actually feel better about things now than when I was waiting for the results. I won't know about follow up treatment until after my surgery, but they think it might have gone to at least one lymph node. I am opting for a double mastectomy because of my family history and some spots in the breast that was not biopsied.

    Jsilb,

As you wait for members to respond, you may want to check out the section on the main breastcancer.org Breastcancer 101.

    We hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

JSilb - Sorry that the news is what it is, but glad that you know about this board; it really helps to have a place where you can talk to other people who have gone through the same thing. It's funny how it's a relief to know even if the news is not what you wanted to hear. Many hugs.

    JSilb,

I also found that waiting was the worst. However, once you know your treatment plan, things will start to normalize. I'm not much of a writer, but I do read these boards every day (it sort of became an addiction now, lol) and I find a great peace of mind and awareness that we are not the only ones dealing with this crappy disease. You will get through this! (((hugs)))

    JSillb,

((()(Hugs))). Welcome to the club no one really wants to be a part of. Like the others said the waiting is the hard part. Once you have a plan it becomes relatively easier as you slip into warrioier mode. I also had a BMX. This board has been a lifeline for me.

    Hang in there....

JSilb- it is weird that news- even bad is still better than the waiting and not knowing. You will make the best decision for your given all your factors (family hx, current staging etc). Do you have a surgery date yet?

We are here for you- this site is full of people who have so much life experience with this unplanned journey- stay close even on the days you just want to read versus post.

I met with the surgeon today. He agrees about the double mastectomy, but he thinks I may need chemo before the surgery. I have to go in for a biopsy of my lymph nodes now which I have already been told are probably malignant too. Has anyone done chemo before their mastectomy? The doctor says it is my best chance at long term survival. How bad is chemo? Can you still function while undergoing treatment? I don't care about losing my hair, but I am worried about not being able to do the things that need to get done.

Hang in there Jsib...Function is such a a relative term. I took off from work since my diagnosis and will not be returning until after my exchange. I know I would not be able to work. It is hard enough for me to go for walks.. I also just need time to myself, plus my mood is all over the place. Browse the chemo boards, I'm on the October 2013 one, it depends on the SE's you get and the kind of chemo.

I did a lot of reading on the boards while I waited for a plan. There is always somone to chat with here...

Jsib, Everyone is different how they react to their chemo. I worked pretty much full time through my chemo. I had 6 treatments of TC (taxotere and Cytoxin) every 2 weeks. There were days when I had a low fever- something to be careful of, so I would stay home then. I was glad I could work, as it offered me distraction from what I was going through. I'm almost done radiation now, and feel good. Best of luck.
