Dr. Lagios question and TE question

I have already had my BMX and was reading some of the posts about Dr. Lagios. I was not aware of him prior to surgery but have now researched him. I was not happy with my pathology reports--stereotactic nor final path. To me it was somewhat outdated in how it addressed things--nothing like Dr. Loves book or a lot of what you all say in yours. High grade and solid seems out dated when compared to newer terms. Also, my right breast had several suspicious areas in it on Mammo, MRI and ultrasound yet none of them were seen on pathology. I get that they could be benign but they were termed as masses on all 3 reports yet nothing at all was seen in that breast--I find that difficult to accept. Also most people on here had hormone receptor studies done and they refused to do them on my pathology. I was wondering if you can ask for a 2nd opinion on pathology. Honestly after being in medicine for 20+ years I just don't trust 1 set of eyes on something that could mean life or death. As for my TE problem I have a marble sized area above my incision line that is tender and producing searing pain that radiates to my back and shoulder. It could be a fluid collection but I'm just not sure if I want to have it aspirated. Does anyone have experience with this? What's the best thing to do???

    Romyles,

Since you have already had a BMX as treatment for your DCIS, I am not sure why you now want another pathology opinion. However if it would give you peace of mind, yes, you can always request another pathology opinion. In fact if insurance covered your first two pathology reviews, it will probably also cover another one. Both times I consulted with Dr. Lagios, his fees were covered by my insurance. The consults were well worth it to me.

it's not really the DCIS side I'm as concerned about...I didn't feel comfortable with them not doing the receptors but figured it didn't really matter. I went to a teaching hospital and saw a lot of residents before the actual surgeon and felt really run around . I worry that something may have been overlooked on the side that was so questionable on mammo and MRI but nothing at all was seen on patho...not even a benign tumor. When you see so many different people and get so many different views (I saw 3 different radiologist at the 1 hospital after the initial radiologist that referred me) you kind of start wondering if all is in order. The last radiologist was very concerned about the "benign" side and pleased to hear I was having a mastectomy on that side too...that's why I'm a little confused as to why those "tumor s" she saw were not even seen on pathology.
