Chemo brain strikes again.

Apparently I started a blog while I was going through chemo and I completely forgot about it. lol I found it almost by accident and my last post was March 12, 2012! Yep I really forgot about that one.

What have you forgotten about that you remembered months or even a year later?

I wish I could remember something! LOL. They told me my chemo brain should clear up within 5 years. Guess who just passed the 5 year mark with very little improvement. My memory is so bad it is humiliating. Seems like I have total recall of events prior to chemo. Not only is my memory bad after chemo, I struggle for words when I speak, and have great difficulty recognizing faces of people that I have met since chemo. I can be introduced to someone on Monday and bump into them a day or two later and either have no idea who they are or else I know I know them but can't remember how. My DR. recommended I go to chemo brain classes and I did improve in some areas. I actually worked with a speech therapist and we worked on memory, facial recognition, etc.

I'm sure my list would be long, but I've forgotten what to put on it.

My chemobrain is so bad, it's depressing. Memory used to be a strength for me. I also struggle with word recall and faces now where I never did before.

My Dr. Heard about this new chemo brain help thru our hospital and had her nurse contact me about it.  I'm sorry to hear that others are struggling with it but also relieved I am not alone.  I find I stay home a lot to save me from embarrassing myself.  Some days when I am stumbling to find words I feel like a stroke victim.    I work with the public which is hard when you don't recognize your clients the day after they were in the office. I'm hoping it might improve when I get off Aromasin in a few months.  When I first had chemo,  the term "chemo" brain" was new and not all of the medical community recognized  it as a legit condition.  Thankfully things have changed.   The person I saw was a speech therapist.  She also works with people who have had a stroke or have head injuries.  I think she helped a lot with memory.  She gave me some helpful  tools.I saw her 2X per week for 6 or weeks.

I am really concerned about this. I already have AD/HD, so chemo brain sounds like the story of my life, but if it gets worse heaven help us. And you get forgetful during menopause too. My kids will have to put me in a nursing home! Is there anything they can do? Vitamins? Something?
