Arimidex After 5 Years???

I have a big decision to make!  In March 2014 it will be 5 yrs since my diagnosis of LC. I had 2 tiny foci of 4mm and 2mm  with treatment consisting of lumpectomy, 6weeks of radiation, and Arimidex.

I know that Lobular cancer is very sneaky and has a habit of showing up again after 5 years.......so has anyone continued taking Arimidex longer than 5yrs?  How long?  If you didn't continue treatment, any recurrence?

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

    Hi

there has been alot of discussion about this on the hormonal therapy board. I am right behind you--go off femara in May--in my last oncology appt my onc said that the research is not there yet to make her keep me on this for longer than 5 years.... it will be interesting to see if any news comes up at the December conference in San Antonio---- take a look on the hormonal therapy thread--it is in there somewhere and there are lots of different opinions and advice-which does not make it easier.

My plan is to go off in June, 2014. If the research changes, I will go back on, but there are some side effects to these drugs--- I like the protection, but I had chemo and radiation--so feel like I have done the standard of care.

    good luck--not an easy decision.

i've been on arimidex for 8 years ... onc said some studies indicate some additional benefit .. however my tumor was huge and 99% ER+ so that definately weighs in on the decision and my bone density is holding ....

I have been on arimidex for almost six years. When I reached the five year mark, my onc suggested I continue for another five years, for a total of ten years. My most recent dexa scan showed some bone loss. Best of luck with your decision.

This month marks 5 years on Arimidex and I believe my MO will take me off Arimidex when I see him in April.  What then?

I was thinking of just trying keep hormone levels lower naturally but any ideas or specific quesitons to ask him?  He never really seemed to think I should stay on longer.  Appreciate all thoughts.
