New and nervous

Hello ladies. I am 53 and had my annual mammogram. It showed calcifications Right breast / core biopsy/ flat epithelial atypia/ Bi-Rad4/ I scored a 29% on my screening so Bilateral MRI this Tuesday. Depending on results a lumpectomy is next. No family history but I did have a fibroadenoma removed years ago. Had a Hysterectomy with ovaries removed 2000. Been on Estrogen ever since. They told me I should stop immediately, so I did. I can handle the menopausal symptoms but I cant handle all this waiting. My prayers are with all of you strong ladies. Im glad I have someone to relate to. Im a person who likes control and I feel like now I have no control over anything. Im glad they found this early but I hope thats all they find.

PS whoever invented the stereo-tatic core biopsy had to be a man. Just saying.LOL

hello Mamajo, I agree with you on the core biopsy. I took my first and only Valium before the procedure. I am not sure what your results were, not familiar with all the lingo. Getting the MRI should be helpful. The process is scary, and I hope for you it turns out ok or they caught it early. I am still in the shock stage of a stage 3 dx. The waiting is stressful. I am in treatment, getting dose dense chemo. I struggle waiting between infusions. I want it done quickly & NOW. Talk about losing control ? Breast cancer does that to all of us.

Amen on the core bx comment! Mine hurt like crazy and the bruise afterward was huge. Once the punch went in I felt it and I think I move on the table- probably caused that bruising. The radiologist said- really- you felt that? Gee now why would I make that up????

Waiting is awful much worse than knowing anything one way or the other.

I was in the car on the way to the dentist when I got the call. All I know so far is DCIS, grade 3. I was in shock and didn't even know what to ask. I am waiting for a call from my family doctor to get referrals to a breast doctor. I haven't a clue what to expect. I thought my life was smooth sailing once I got a pacemaker and now this. I've been reading articles online all afternoon to try to get a grip on what I should ask.

Hello Teacher!

I am so sorry you have had this shock! But so glad you found us. We all understand just how you are feeling.

Try to breathe and take it one step at a time. I had the exact same diagnosis, and went into panic mode.

There is a wonderful lady who posts here named Beesie, and she has put together an all you need to know about DCIS page on this Forum. I used it to educate myself and all my friends and family. It makes such a difference, as I am sure you know, with that name tag of Teacher, knowledge is power.

I am sure you'll have an appointment soon where your Dx will be discussed at length, with all your options. It really does get better when you have a plan in place and know just what is going to happen, and when.

I wish you all the very best and encourage you to keep coming here. There is always someone around if you need help or support. Please try to stay away from Google, there is a lot of out of date info there that can scare or confuse you.

Just know that you're never alone, and you'll do fine!
