Newly diagnosed--ER postive PR negative HR2 negative
I was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Two small tumors (5.3 mm and 3.9mm) separated by 4mm. I am ER positive and PR negative with HR2 negative. I am seeing my surgeon next Monday to go over my results and discuss surgery. From what I have read, having PR negative receptor poses problems. I am wondering if having a mastectomy would be a better option under my circumstances.

jpteacher, sorry you had to join us on this forum. It's a great community of women but it stinks to be a part of the group if you know what I mean. It's pretty common to be ER postive and PR negative and I don't think it's a reason alone to choose mastectomy over lumpectomy. Of course there may be other considerations when making your decision but I'm not aware of any particular increase in risk of recurrance when PR negative.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. No, joining a breast cancer message board was never on my radar screen. I keep thinking I'm going to wake up and it will be a bad dream. I know I have a good surgeon and I will feel much better after I meet her on Monday and discuss options. I want the tumors gone and then I can begin the next journey. -
jpteacher1- Please do yourself a huge favor.... Try to not use Dr. Google as your source of information. There is a lot of information on the internet that may be inaccurrate, not current and just may not even apply to your situation. No reason to scare yourself with information that doesn't pertain to your particular situation. Sorry you have found yourself here but you are not alone here. You have come to a place with great support and information and a safe harbor to let out how you are feeling. Many have travelled this way before you and many are here to to help those who have just begun their new adventure.
As you can see from my stats, my bc was Er +/ Pr -/ HER2 - ( it is really HER2 +1 but is considered negative in the Herceptin world.) I finished chemo August 2012 and Herceptin March 2013. I received the Herceptin because I volunteered for the Herceptin B-47 clinical trial and was randomized to receive the Herceptin. I did not have rads upon the recommendations of my onco and the hospital tumor board which discussed my case. I've been on Tamoxifen for 14 months and have taken it with the attitude that it is one more treatment available to me in my arsenal. I take it for myself, my family, my friends and in honor of every triple negative bc person who wish there was one more drug/treatment available for them.
Keep breathing. The emotional roller coaster ride for you is beginning. Just buckle that seat belt and hold on tight. Never hesistate to ask questions or ask for help. HUGS.....
