Transportation Cost Help

Options

Hello there. My mom has inflammatory breast cancer and lung cancer. We live in a rural area and

have to travel over 100 miles round trip to get to her chemo treatments. They are only every three weeks,

but in between times, she has been hospitalized for seven days - that was 70 miles round trip. She's having

a great deal of problems with her eyes from dryness - she has to see an eye care professional and that's about

40 miles round trip. Not to mention her PCP who she sees a lot. That's only 20 miles round trip. My question

(bet you were wondering when I'd get to that) is: Do any of you know where I could get help with gas money?

I called the Area Agency on Aging and they said they didn't do that. I looked at the American Cancer Society's website

and saw nothing for that there. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi BecauseofLove and welcome to Breastcancer.org!

We're sure some other members will be by shortly with some helpful advice, but in the meantime you may find it helpful to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Paying for Your Care. There's a page called Help Paying for Living Expenses that might offer some good tips!

    We hope this helps!

Becauseoflove, I'm so sorry about what your Mom is dealing with, but definitely call your closest American Cancer Society office and find out what they offer. I have heard of many people getting free transportation to treatment (provided by volunteers), and also free lodging.

There are also several websites where you can set up a page to ask for contributions for a specfic need like medical or medical-related expenses. I haven't had any personal experience with them, but think it would be worth looking into. Here's an article that lists several of them: http://voices.yahoo.com/need-money-these-websites-help-ask-it-257925.html This would be a great way to let strangers who might be willing to help know about your needs.

Good luck. (((Hugs))) to you and your Mom. Deanna
