On many sites people cannot create OPs until they have responded to "X" number of others' OPs. This obviously solves the problem as hit-and-run spammers won't be bothered with engaging in genuine dialogue.

There used to be that sort of restriction, the problem was when people who had been just diagnosed joined and had lots of questions they would hit the post limit.

I honestly will live with a little spam if it means new people with a lot of questions get to ask them.
