    Hi Robsp!

So sorry you find yourself here and I wish the best for you. I don't know for certain if oncotype is done for males or not, but I would not see why it couldn't be. They also have oncotyping for prostate and colon cancers now too. I contacted to company a few times and they are more than happy to answer questions and talk to you. They were very friendly and helpful. I put their number below.

    Good luck to you!

I received a reply from Genomic Health that Oncotype can be used for male breast cancer. They sent the same information from the link below.

But if someone want to share his experience with Oncotype for MBC I would like to hear.

    hi

I had my oncotyping done from the same ppl that is genome inc....my experience with them was quite annoying....they took a lot of time for processing my sample and then sending me off the result despite their tall claims...I desperately wanted my results so that i could avoid chemotherapy but I couldn't ...once it starts, it has to roll over according to a schedule...and you can't just put that off....So despite having rather favorable results finally, i had to have all the prescribed four cycles.....they were hellish....

As to its validity in males.....well one can't be certain about it ....all the experience in this area is with the women...data from men is too scarce to reach any meaningful conclusions..In women this is a valid test.....but the same can't perhaps be said about men........you will have to take chances ....Males breast cancer may be biologically different....but again its not for sure....we are being treated after female model.....but then we don't have any choice.....discuss it with your oncologist..and follow his advice but in the end no one is gonna take the responsibility... we can just hope for the best....wish you luck.

    Thank you for your reply.

My oncologist do not trust Oncotype for male breast cancer. I have a chance to be HER2+, my first test was equivocal. I think I´m going to take chemo even if HER2 is negative. After my surgery and when I have more details of my breast cancer stage I will talk with my oncologist again about Oncotype.
