Hello everyone, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a week ago and it turned our world upside because she is already battling Lupus and cancer is the last thing that she needs, but the Doctor put a positive spin in the situation and told us that many have survived breast cancer. My mother does not have health insurance because she has been denied due to her pre-existing condition, we were able to find an insurance provider in the state of NM that was willing to accept her after meeting some pretty ridiculous requirements and her premium would have been approximately $500 a month, which she could not afford, so we declined. She was able to utilize the breast and cervical cancer screening program that the city of Alamorgo NM offers to detect the cancer. We were told that she will immediately qualify for Medicaid which would cover her treatment, but the next day we receive another bad news.....That she actually did NOT qualify for Medicaid because she has to be a legal resident of the U.S for at least 5 years, she has only been a legal resident for two years. The city does not offer any other programs that will cover her treatment. We are in desperate need of information about any financial assistance, I am afraid that her cancer will begin to spread before she gets the proper treatment. We are in the process of getting her coverage for the beginning of the year with the health reform. Since we have not been able to consult with a Doctor since her diagnosis I have relied heavily on the Internet to get information on all the general details about breast cancer, but the unknown is how quickly it can spread. I am asking for any personal experiences or suggestions that will help and comfort us!!!!
