Micro-invasions question

I've noticed a lot of women on here with micro-invasions in their profile signature, even those with DCIS. I'm confused by this.

I thought that micro-invasions were called "micro" because they're too small to detect? Am I wrong about this? How does someone know if they have micro-invasions?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

The definition of a microinvasion is any invasive tumor that is 1mm or smaller in size. These are large enough to be found when the tissue is analysed under a microscope. Even much smaller tumors can be found.

DCIS-Mi is my diagnosis. It means that the majority of my tumor was DCIS (in my case that was over 7cm of DCIS) but I also had a single 1mm microinvasion of IDC. So that tiny amount of invasive cancer changed my diagnosis and staging from Stage 0 DCIS to Stage I DCIS-Mi.

    Hope that helps!

I also have DCIS- Mi. When setting up my profile, I don't have the option of the adding the MI part. How did you do that Beesie?

Mouse, I don't show my DX line. Instead I wrote my diagnosis in as part of my signature line. You can find that in your Profile, under Settings. It's right at the bottom of the page. You can write in anything there and it will show up under all your posts.
