Hello everyone,

I am trying to stay calm and I am finding it difficult, so I thought I would talk to my friends here. I just finished radiation therapy on my right breast 15 days ago. I got my prescription for Tamoxifen last Friday but I was told to hold off starting it for at least 2 more weeks due to my skin still peeling & healing. I went for my annual mammogram on the opposite breast last Thursday and was called back today for magnification pictures. Now I know not to get ahead of myself...but I only finished treatment 15 days ago! I must admit I am a bit freaked, but I also know the drill. I had an MRI last April when I was initially diagnosed with LCIS/DCIS on the right side but it didn't show anything that we didn't already know. Has anyone else been called back this soon after treatment?

I am able to have the magnifications done tomorrow, and they do read them right away. I will keep you all informed. Thank you for listening.

Hi 2tails, I did have a stereotactic core biopsy of the other breast immediately following the first annual mammogram post treatment. It was, thankfully, benign. As far as your need for magnifications post treatment, it isn't surprising. You will be followed very carefully. Hopefully, they don't find anything to biopsy yet.

Come to find out, the radiologist was looking at an area of "asymmetry". They did not tell me this when I was initially called back and they did not tell me what it means. The tech took a few views and left to talk to the radiologist. She came back 25 minutes later saying to come back in 6 months. She said it was " protocol" for this kind of finding. Well I know it really means it is probably benign, but there is a small chance it might not be. The tech was starting to get frazzled by the length of time my case was taking so I didn't push the issue of speaking to the radiologist. I did however call my nurse navigator when I got home and she filled me in on some of the details. I am a bit more comfortable with what asymmetry means, but I am not really comfortable with waiting 6 months without more information on what was shown on these extra views. My navigator is going to get the report tomorrow and review it with me. Thank God for navigators! I lied in my above post, my MRI was in June not April and it didn't show anything going on in the left breast at that time so that is good. Time for me to do more waiting.
