how do u know cancer hasnt spread despite clear nrgins?

any info about metastasis despite clear nodes/margins after lumpectomy w/IORT? they focus exclusively on the breasts...how do they know those little suckers didn't start elsewhere or snuck thru and spread? I had a L/ w SNB 4 all neg. IDC st ll/glll (8 of 9) ER/PR +.FISH HER2 NEG. waiting on onco now. original size was 2.7cm but needed 2nd surg to clear margins where we found minimal DCIS...we know I need antihormone therapy. ...not sure what combo yet. Had single hi dose IORT rads.seems all path reports so far have confirmed the cells are very irregular and aggressive. can't help but wonder! thanks!

    You don't know! This is all a crap shoot. Even when we get clear CTs and PETs, there can still be some cancer in there, too small to be detected. At some point we just have to start living our lives and not worry so much about what ifs. Don't know how far along you are in the process, but it does happen eventually! Best wishes!

    I agree...you can't allow anything to consume u! I have had a lifelong medical issues that if I allowed.... I would have offed myself a long time ago! I was diagnosed w a mammo on July 1. We're at the point now where I'm waiting on my oncotype results. Next step is the oncologist. .... We know I need antihormone meds beyond that unsure. thanks for your kind
