Hi Tre23,
An oncotype is often ordered for early stage, node negative, er/pr+ and her2- tumours to determine the effectiveness of chemo. I think in many places, it is the standard of care. You can google their website.
I got my oncotype results back yesterday, and the results confirmed that chemo would not reduce my risk of recurrence, so no chemo.
Good luck, -
I had original surgery on sept 16th and a second to clear margins on sept 30....you'd think someone would have done this before now! or inform me of further tests. I was told they would tell me if I needed chemo at my appt tomorrow....got the call from that company today with no info as to what it was or from whom
! was dx july 1.....and still not getting info from MD.....is this normal? -
thanks Ridley! you're in my prayers! -
I'm surprised that Genomics called you. I only dealt with my med onc for the test (had to provide permission for them to send the tissue) and the results. I hope your results are back tomorrow, and you find out next steps. I was diagnosed a few days before you, and my treatment plan is just being finalized now, so I understand your frustration.
Good luck!

Genomic health called me & let me know that they received my tumors & I wouldn't have a co-pay for reasons I still don't understand BUT I'm not complaining. I was diagnosed in feb 2011. I had surgery in april of 2011 & the oncotype test done in July 2011. It can give you additional information. The first 6 months after diagnosis(& I didn't have chemo) were very frustrating & confusing. My doctors seldom agreed on anything. My oncotype results were back 2-3 days after that call. I was expecting it to take 2 weeks. That was the only thing to happen quickly for me. I started RADs 3 1/2 months after surgery & Tamoxifen 6 months after surgery. I was on a real slow boat. It seemed at times like, no one was taking my cancer seriously. I have a friend, who's sister had the same team as I did but things happened much more quickly for her. She also had a more aggressive cancer.
There was a thread here a BCO by someone who went to chemo before her oncotype result came back. She had 1 chemo session & then her test came back low. I would wait for this test before making a decision either way. It MAY help clarify things. Hope things come together for you soon -
coraleliz...thanks for ur input! dx July 1/surg 9-16&30th...after 2nd opinion. was glad I did get 2nd...first one said full mas on both...and no rad due to autoimmune conditions. plastics guy said "why not just chop em both off. w/no reconstruction! ..(Though left showed nothing..).so I would be balanced! "Afterall there are LOTS of beautiful super models who are flat chested! "My hubby and I RAN from them!!!
Second opinion MD was able to do lumpectomy w /SNB 0/4 all neg! GREAT JOB.Desite needing 2nd surgery to clear margins. Dealing w/a seroma but w Manual compressions...its FINALLY improving. It took over 3 weeks to not be an extra b cup boob and painful. The past few days its much smaller....but lessening w/continued compession thruout the day!
the samples recieved at G. on 10/7...not sure why It took while to get them? results due on tues 10/15 . I had IORT on day of first surg and am waiting for oncotype and need to call monday to set oncologist appt.....have had only the 2 surg and IORT at this point.
