Is it just in my head? Or should I be worried?

Hi,

I have IDC grade 2 (on core biopsy only) awaiting surgery so not staged yet. On last ultrasound, 1 month ago, my lymph nodes appeared okay. In my many months of doctor appts and tests, my lymp has gotten progressively larger. It is quite big now...as pointed out again by my surgeon. My surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks. I am trying to wait patiently! In the whole scope of things, 2 weeks is not much longer for my mastectomy. However, at last visit my BS asked if I was having pain, especially in my arm. I wasnt at the time. But now I sometimes feel a burning, tingling or mild pain in my breast and down my arm. Could this just be because I am now aware of this possibility (in my head essentially)? Should I be concerned? I have an appt with my GP for general pre-surgical check-up on Oct 18. Should I wait until then? How fast can IDC grade 2 progress?

Probably progresses very slowly -- at least that's what my BS told me.

I know that during my wait -- first for biopsy, then for biopsy results, then for surgery, I palpated my left breast a lot. When I went in for the pre-op physical (BS did this), he asked if I had gotten myself sore from palpating it. Guess he knew that most of us can't keep from doing that during our waiting time!

However, I think you should get it checked out by the BS now, just in case.

Hi!

It could just be because you know it's gotten larger, because you've been poked at by yourself and others, but it could also be that if a node has gotten larger it may be touching a nerve. It takes very little pressure to make a nerve mad. It isn't urgent if this is what it is....but I would definitely let your surgeon know, and let them make the decision as to what it may be.

Update.... turns out it was just in my head. Had my mastectomy and doing great. No more arm pain! And no loss of sensation in my arm. Very happy with how the surgery went. Pathology report is pending however.
