Usual diagnostics for suspected chest wall recurrence?

Options

7 years post bi-lateral mast for DCIS, no reconstruction. New lump near sternum. What is usual? Ultrasound, MRI, or straight to excision?

Hi ddd, I don't actually know, but it seems to me that straight to excision might be a little odd. Usually the docs do some form of imaging.

I hope it all turns out OK.

ddd: I think it would depend upon where your lump is. I presented with a lump (it was a lymph node), above collar bone which was biopsied and came back metastatic disease. After biopsy, CT scans were ordered. Hope this helps somewhat. Jean

ddd: I am assuming DCIS is ductal carcinoma in situ which is NOT invasive. Invasive cancer can present only in the nodes which is unusual. I wouldn't think the worst just yet.
