Be bold,be Bald
This is all over Facebook and it's making me real mad.
Be bold,be bald...
I think I'm gonna get kicked off Facebook
Who is gonna cut off their hair for cancer??"
There are cancer patients who have no $$$$$
There are cancer patients who have no food
There are cancer patients who have no money or food or transportation to go for treatment.
There are cancer patients who have no insurance so they cannot get treatment
There are cancer patients who cannot get out of bed to even cook a meal.
We are a great group of sistas...how can we stop this AND what can we do about it??????

Y -
www.beboldbebald.org
It's on October 18th
Basically people will wear stupid bald caps to raise money and awareness for cancer.
Blah. Blah. Blah. -
Good gawd.
-
I think this is absolutely moronic and fail to see how people can possibly think this makes anyone feel "supported".
-
I find it an insulting parody of breast cancer patients. I am sure they haven't really thought it out and do mean well, but it's like a white person putting on blackface to attend a civil rights rally.
-
I even find it incredibly stupid and insensitive when people shave their heads in "solidarity" with people who are close to them.
-
This morning, I visited the FB page and posted my sense of outrage - as someone who had had breast cancer - at their "fun" campaign. It took three-and-a-half minutes for my post to disappear.
-
I posted on the pink revolution.
My post was removed
It was not nice how I put their back up against the wall SO why did they remove my post....thir mods did comment on my post a whole lot of bullshit about awareness...and I responded awareness my ass....there is not one person in the world who is not aware....they could send a man to the moon and they cannot/will not find a damn cure...
And where exactly is all that $$$$goin?
Focktober...I hate u... -
Does anyone know how/were I can find out exactly where all their $$$$ goes?
I could really hav a party with that
Any links????? -
granny - here is the money detail from their website. It is all kinds of cancer organizations:
More than 40 local and national cancer organizations benefit from this event (see beneficiaries page). At registration, participants select the organization to whom they would like their proceeds to benefit. Funds raised for each organization are granted to that organization. If you would like your proceeds to benefit an organization that is not currently a beneficiary, please have that organization complete our beneficiary application.
Here is the link to the beneficiaries page:
-
Thank u Special K.i read the foundations who are involved.
But
I want to no where exactly all this money goes
How much goes to research?
If we don't have the $$$$$$ for research how will they ever find a cure
Or
Are they really looking for the cure?
I find this very insulting that the people who support these foundations are not even talking about a cure....
It's all about awareness.grrrrrrrrrrr. -
From what I could gather the money just goes to these organizations and they do with it what they will. Some are research oriented, some are med centers, some are assistance funds. There seemed to be a lot more organizations for other types of cancer than BC, which is actually a good thing!
-
SpecialK--They posted an answer to my question.I asked exactly how much goes to research and was told basically what you said...
They also have an annual report...I asked for one.
I need to see with my own eyes where that money goes.
They should send me one...it's supposed to be public knowledge.
Let's see what they do next. -
granny - I will be watching! It is nice that they are raising money, I hope it is all going for good things, but I am bothered by how they are doing it.
-
I'll be letting everyone no exactly where the big bucks go
IF THEY send me the annual report. -
I just got a reply from them
There are over 40 participates in this stupid thing
She said I could contact each and every one of them for the annual report
R u kidding me?????
I smell something that smells like chit...... -
I think the Be Bold, Be Bald thing is totally stupid.
That said, the fact that they allow participants to direct the funds that they raise to any of more than 40 local and national cancer organizations (as per Special K's post from earlier today) or to another charity of the participant's choosing (if they get the charity to register as a beneficiary) is GREAT! As a participant, you get to decide where your money goes. What's wrong with that? Isn't that better than having them funnel all the funds to a charity of their choosing, which might be one that you don't personally support or agree with?
-
Beesie--agreed
But I'm not going to read 40 annual reports.
I'm glad I have sistas who are not involved with any of this crap
And yes I also have friends and sistas who are. They don't want to hear anything
I'm done...ill fight with my Focktober shirt
If I want to make any kind of donation it will only go to BCO.
As far as I am concerned they were always there for me and all of us.
