radiation induced fibrosis and brachial pathyplexy

Hello sisters:

I was dx 10/11 with TNBC, multifocal, Grade 3/3.  Had mastectomy (10/11) chemo (11/11 - 3/12) and rads (03/12 - 05/12).  Tumors were very close to chest wall so  have a large deep "divot" in chest.  Because had no tissue to protect area during rads, developed large deep draining wound.  About 3 mos after rads, started to have pain, tightness and hardening of tissue in chest wall and axilla.  Got myofascial release PT for about 5 mos. - very painful but did reduce tissue hardness (chest was like a brick wall).  However still having significant problems with pain.  Have 3 types of pain: 1) Aching pain similar to a muscle strain; 2) Sharp pain similar to a muscle cramp; and 3) Very sharp stinging shocking pain that feels like being stabbed and often radiates down arm or across chest.  Have been told this type pain is due to neuropathy.  Pain occurs with certain motions (reaching high or behind) or with typical motions if they are repetitive (sewing, driving, doing dishes, typing).  All types of pain occur inconsistently (yay, that's a help), but when it is bad it is really bad.  Saw Rehab doctor but she had no suggestions other than Lyrica (unable to tolerate).  Afraid moving arm will bring on pain (as it often does) so avoiding using arm, and worried arm is going to get weak and contracted.  Does anyone have problems like this?  Does anyone have any ideas about what to do?  Hope there is someone else out there who can help.  Thanks.

Hi bboots sorry that you are going through all this. I definately can relate and you are not alone in this. I also have been rx lyrica and other meds for pain ect but my system could not tollerate them. I do see that you have been going through this for a long time. It has been just over a year for myself. I wish I could help you, sorry except to say that you are not alone. I have gone down the acupuncture route, pt etc etc, I think this is something that I have resigned to deal with I also have some loss of full range of motion and have to stay on top of my "frozen shoulder" Hopefully someone who is wiser and more knowledgable will come along with experience and advice. Please take care girl we will deal with this also, hugs   roberta
