Radiation burns?

Options

Hello,

I've finished 15 of 25 radiation treatments and my skin is like hamburger. It hurts and itches so bad it takes all my will not to dig at it. The chest is bad, but my back is insane.

Yesterday I was given a scrip for hydrocortisone and saline soaks. Each relieved the pain for about 30-60 seconds.

And I'm told it takes 2 weeks to start to get better after treatment ends. Another 39 days of this!

Has anyone quit treatment for something like this? Any tips on how to get through it? I'm also using glaxal base and a thicker cream they gave me for the worst burns that coats (heals?) them but doesn't stop the discomfort.

Oh, and I broke my foot in 3 places last week. A bit of a mess at the moment. In need of a lot more hands on help than I have access to.

Hi. I am so sorry that you are going thru this. Talk to you rad onc and they might can stop the treatments for a few days so you can heal. When I was burned they gave me these medicated gel patches that helped but I cant remember the name. I also used silvadene cream. Ask for both of these and I kept aloe on it the rest of the time. Ask for pain pills and drink lots of water to hydrate. They can help you get thru this. Healing hugs.

Oh thank you Mel! I wasn't sure about the pain pills- it's not the same pain as the mastectomy. Will ask for that and the gel packs sound oh so soothing! I used saline this morning and it helped for about 90 seconds, which was bliss. I think I have some silvadene and will ask about using that too. I know it's good for burns just didn't know whether I'm allowed to use it.

All the best and hugs right back to you!

    Mum
