Is there anything that should be avoided during Rads?

Options

Hi,

I am tentatively scheduled to begin rads at the end of the month. I was wondering if there is anything to be avoided during radiation, such as wearing makeup, shaving, wearing deodorant, coloring your hair.

Can you please share your experiences, as far as things that you have avoided which were helpful to avoid during rads.

Thank you!

Hi. There is a thread called Summer 2013 Rads that I was just reading today to prep for my meeting with the rad onc. Lots of great info from folks going through rads this summer. Guidance on deodorant seems to vary by radiation oncologist. Ridley

hobbesla4 - You will hear different things from different radiation oncologists, but these are the things I was told to avoid during rads: large doses of antioxidants (daily multivitamin is okay), sun exposure, hot showers, shaving the underarm, commercial deodorant/antiperspirant, and lotions or oils on the skin. I was told to use nothing but pure aloe on my breast, which I did, and I did not burn badly at all. I asked for permission to shave with an electric razor and was told I could do that if I was very careful. I also was cleared to use a non-metallic deodorant called Alra. Good luck!
