Where is the non-religious support?
I really appreciate all the useful tips, advice, & general support to be found on these boards. But does it have to come with a huge side dish of god & Jesus & bible quotes??? I've looked over & over & this really appears to be the most active site for people going thru breast cancer. Yet I can't be the only person feeling like it's Christian believers only if you need help as you go thru treatment. A little sensitivity towards people of other beliefs & who simply don't want to hear about religon would be nice.

The following thread was quite busy for 5 years but hasn't seen any activity for months. Maybe it's time to revive it: Topic: Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?
Of course that doesn't address the issue that there are many religious comments all over the board and often there is not the recognition that others may hold different beliefs, but at least it gives you a place to vent about it!

Batcat, I am sorry that it seems hard for you to find support Here. It does seem religion is quite important to a lot here on the board. However, on a lot of boards I frequent. It isn't quite so in your face. You could start one and see how it goes. I know of some Pagans, Jewish, Catholics, lapsed Catholic, Buddhist and of course, many sects of Christian, and a few athesist. Cancer seems not to care who it strikes. It can be hard if your belief system is ignored, but most here on the board want to help, and for them, sharing how they make it through the dark days involved religion. Perhaps your board could be titled, suggestions to make it through treatment without organized religion? With a note, stating,.No religious replys. Good luck.

I hear you, Batcat. I wouldn't consider myself an atheist but I'm a nonreligious type. I don't begrudge anyone their religious conviction but I am a little surprised at how easily people assume that others are of the same ilk and add a religious dimension to so many conversations here. I don't find myself offended but I can easily see how someone else would be. We are both members of the August 2013 Chemo group. I'll PM you and we can chat individually as well.

I feel exactly the same way! I've stopped following some threads because the main contributors tend to include religious messages. I understand that they are written with good intentions, but as someone who is not religious (nor atheist), I feel that the conversations could be more meaningful for more people without automatically excluding anyone.

Im with you guys. Im new here over last few weeks and everyone has been great. If there is religious stuff I skip over it. To each his own. Tho it is sometimes annoying seeing the God gives us what we can handle, and all that kind of stuff....
Im starting to reach out in my area for support groups and someone to talk to about my emotions, but Im not going to start going to synagogue all of a sudden.

Thanks, it's nice to know I'm not totally alone - I don't begrudge others how they wish support but I'd hope we could support each other a little more neutrally & thoughtfully.
