Port a Cath questions

Options

I had my port a cath placed last Thursday.  The surgeon had trouble finding a vein.  Tried ultrasound. Went to plan B and placed is "very high and to the right in my subclavian(sp?) vein".  My problem is it still hurts like hell.  It was awful for the first 2 days - I was double dosing extra strength tylenol every 6 hours.  I weaned myself down to 1 ExS Tylenol for 2 more days and here I am. The steri-strips are off - It looks okay - I took antibiotics for 5 days - and it does not look infected.  But instead of feeling like a round lump it is round with an edge of some sort poking up off to one side.  If I push it hat is what hurts and it also moves the port a cath!  Its like it isn't sitting flat on my body!  I am due to start Chemo on Thursday do I wait and show the nurses there or should I be calling someone?  What do I say - the doctor put  it in crooked?

    Hi,

I don't have a Port a Cath, which is a brand of port (I have a Bard Power Port), which was placed high up between the upper chest and the hollow right near my shoulder. Although it's been less than a week since you had it placed, I think you should consult with your doc if you're concerned . Perhaps if they had a look at it, they would be able to tell what's going on. Good luck.
