Symmastia band - anyone use with gummies?
Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has had successful use of the symmastia band with gummy style implants? I am still waiting for them to drop a bit more (one is up slightly higher than the other). I'm already 5 weeks out from surgery so am concerned at this point that they are just stuck where they're at! Whippetmom suggested the symmastia band but I'm hoping for some feedback before ordering it. I know that the silicone rounds drop/adjust differently than the anatomicals. Have any of you ladies with the anatomical gummies in particular been able to make your implants drop and/or adjust better with the use of a symmastia band or other similar device? I don't see my PS again for a little over a week. Thanks in advance for input!

I didn't use any band or device but it definitely has taken longer than 5 weeks to settle in and drop a bit. I didn't see much change for at least 2 months because my PS had me in a bra 24/7 to make sure the extra pocketwork and what he did to reinforce the IMF stayed put. I had my surgery 12/17/12 and it's really only been in the last 2-3 months that it seems to have relaxed and settled. Took a while for swelling to go down and as it did, the implant seemed to relax, soften and drop little by little. At 5 weeks, your swelling could be holding it higher. I think mine did because of all the IMF work, as there seemed to be more swelling than the first round implant I had. Try Bromelain to help reduce swelling - it may help.

Hi,I also have anatomical implants gummies. Long and winding road to this point. Had unilateral mastectomy left in July2010 with immediate DIEP recon. Fantastic PS from the Brigham in Boston, on the team for the first face transplant and will lead the team for the first leg transplant. That being said I had a complication and almost lost the flap lots of drama lots of trauma.
Since then, I have had fat graphing and bilateral gummy implants one under the DIEP flap and the other under natural breast. Both looked fab until, the left started to contract and get firm. Anyway, back to the OR for the 8th time and removed the implant and replaced with the same type. Apparently, all the trauma to that side makes it prone to developing scar tissue and contracture.
To get to your question, he put me in a compression bra and a band right after surgery to hopefully keep the implant down as in the past it wants to ride up. I saw him last week and he was very pleased. Now, I have to wear this damn thing for three more weeks. I just have the single band it is bearable but, it is difficult to find clothing that hides the band as it has to be worn high to get downward pressure on the implant. No longer need the bra I usually wear the band over a cami as it tends to irritate my skin. Most PS will give you a band, mine gave me two so I can have a clean one while one is being washed.
The use of bands to drop implants seems get mixed reviews from PS, some swear by them and others think they are useless. I have not found any info that finds them harmful so, I guess, all you have to lose is some $$.
Also, go on realself.com and search. You will find opinions from a variety of PS on the use of bands.
Sorry to be so longwinded .
