throat cancer - side effects

Options

Just finished my 33 treatments of radiation - it was tough going for me I guess I wasn't the average patient as had lots of pain and my mask was soooo tight during the last 7 sesions I thought I'd go crazy.

Anywho, several days later my rectangular mark on my neck spread to the tip of my chin down to the top of my chest as well as ear to ear. It turned black, and then started weeping and peeling. It hurts so bad I can't explain. Nurse percribed SSD over the phone on a fri and called on Mon saying I should come in.

The peeling is almost over but geeze, where it weeps green it just kills me to touch it and now I have this horrific odor (which actually started a day before the area grew and turned black). Oncologist said he's never seen this before but has heard about it. I'm on an skin antibiotic now.

If anyone can assist me further with support or knowledge of this, please, please share.

    Pizzapie,

I am sorry that you are going through this. I am also a bit confused by your post and the title of this thread. Do you have throat cancer (you mention a mask for rads)? This is a breast cancer forum so if you're asking about se's from throat cancer treatment, I'm not sure how many responses you'll get. If you do have bc, please tell us a bit more about your diagnosis so people who have similar diagnoses can respond. Take care.

Thank you for writing exbrnxgrl. Indeed I have throat cancer, vocal cords actually, stage 1-2 but haven't been able to find a board about it for any answers. I did 33 radiation treatments, not chemo so I apologize. If you want me off pf this board, I will leave. Sorry, just couldn't find anyone else to ask. You know of another place I can go?

    Pizzapie,

This forum is public so anyone can join and more importantly, neither I nor anyone here would "want" you off the board. However, other than breast rads or rads to other areas due to metastatic bc, I'm not sure you'll find many (or any) who've had an experience similar to yours. What have you found when you searched for support forums for your type of cancer? Is there a specific name for your type of cancer or is it just called cancer of the vocal chords? Forgive for asking what may seem like a silly question, but bc has many varieties, so exactly what type we have is important when trying to find others with similar issues. I have had rads, but to a bone met and for 15 sessions only. Take care.

    Pizzpie,

Just found this. I don't know how active it is but it might be a good resource. And please don't apologize ! Just want to see that you find a place that can give you more support than we can.
