Hi my mom had suguery for breast cancer and did chemo and radiation. Her skin is all red, itchy and feel burn sometimes. The part being exposed to radiation turns black. She feels pain and I'm worried about her.

I'm wondering can any body recommend a cream or something that can heal her problem. Thank you very much!

Wish everyone healthy.

You should check with your mom's radiation doctor but my doctor recommended Aquaphor cream, even gave out little tubes of it.  I also asked about aloe juice from an aloe plant I have.  He said that would be great.  I have also used Caldasene Powder.  It is over the counter and I found out about it years ago from my children's pediatrician.  It worked great at healing diaper rash.  But again, check with your mom's doctor first.  Good luck.

Ask about Silvadene cream, it helped for my radiation burns.

    Hi br777,

In addition to the helpful advice from the other members here, you may be interested reading the main Breastcancer.org site's pages on Managing Skin Side Effects of Radiation.

    We hope this helps!

for radiation, here is all the stuff I used, in order of worsening reactions to the treatment (I finished on July 11, 2013):

    1. Cetaphil lotion
    1. Aquaphor
    1. Zeasorb powder for itching (for athlete’s foot, at CVS)
    1. Topicort – prescription, for itching once I started getting red
    1. Aloe with lidocaine
    1. Talc powder for chafing/rubbing under arm. I’m still using this now!
    1. Sulfa/Silvadine cream – prescription; this saved me at the end, just finished using it last week.

My mom hasn't started yet but she was told aloe vera gel every other application, rotate with a fragrance free moisturizer like Aveeno.  At least 4x per day.  Only natural deodorant, fragrance free soap and use nothing immediately prior to treatment.  So if she is getting radiation in the am, she would not use anything on her skin that morning.

We were not told anything about skin turning black though....what did your doctor say about that?
