Bilateral MLD, therapy videos--yes!
Hello, all!
I have good news!! Those of us who have bilateral LE soon realize there are no videos or descriptions of the adjustments that need to be made to the standard MLD procedure of directing fluid to the "good" side. Finally, along comes therapist Heidi Roe at the Michigan State University rehab department, who has created two excellent videos to show us how to deal with MLD in a bilateral situation:
bilateral, how to manage the truncal part:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q14gNVXQAs4
bilateral, arms:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoC8BNVPBb0
The second one is short and only introduces the directional differences between unilateral and bilateral--the actual arm part is the same as usual, up to the top of the arm. (She has another video showing the standard arm MLD, for those who want to refresh their memory). She had a whole series of MLD videos, but no bilateral, and when I asked her about that she very generously made these for us. Thank you, Heidi!
Whew!

I remember seeing her videos a couple of months back but these two indeed are new. Great links Binney. Thx.

Binney. With all us dble mast. gals would the video you posted help us even though we don't have LE in both arms. The reason I ask is because I have a sneaky feeling that my non le side might not be too happy and thought maybe I should be draining as if I have double LE. I do have truncal, also a wee bit of breast swell going on every so oftenm on my le side.
I really shouldn't comment until I view the video but I am in a hurry and can't view it yet. Just curious. thx

Hugz, after bilateral surgery both sides are at risk, so YES you should be using a modified version of the MLD routine that doesn't move the fluid to the opposite axilla, but down toward the inguinal nodes. No point overloading an already compromised quadrant!
Let us know what you think when you have a chance to view these.
Hugz right back at ya'!

Now I am a bit stumped because my LEist should have given me a handout on bilat massage but she supplied me with one arm LE mld instruction. I will be talking to her for sure. Thx Binney
