Options

Hi,

I have a friend who has had 5 of 8 weekly taxol infusions.  This time around the joint/bone/muscle pain is limiting her mobilily.  Would love to hear suggestions on what might make her feel better.  Thanks :-).

    Hi knowledgeforpower,

You may find some helpful info to help manage these side effects on the main Breastcancer.org site's pages on Bone/Joint Pain and Muscle Pain.

    We hope this helps!

    Cathy,

I'm sorry your friend is having such a painful time with Taxol.  Some people are very sensitive to it.  Is she also having Neulasta shots?  Sometimes that can cause pain, too.

I had such severe joint/bone pain with Taxol that I ended up on Vicodin for the entire 12 weeks of treatment.  My MO tried to argue that it was the Neulasta shot, but I had had those during the previous 8 weeks of AC treatment with no problems at all.  After a week of being literally unable to walk (I crawled up the stairs one night, which really scared my husband) he prescribed the pain meds.

I agree, Nancy.  I had two Neulasta shots during my A/C chemo, and never had a minutes' pain from either the shots or the chemo.  Taxol and Taxotere both have pain as one of their top SEs.

    Hi Cathy,

I just had Taxol #2 last week. I got the really bad pain the first time but then I read about taking Claritin. I took it the morning after treatment and will continue for 3 to 4 days. Has worked like a charm! Now, if I could only get rid of the migraines after the steroid crash.
