I had UMX with SNB and DIEP for DCIS, but pathology turned up a very small IDC in the breast (3 mm) and 1 mm in the sentinel node. MO is putting me on Tamoxifen when my reconstruction is done (soon). I hadn't thought I was done having kids and then BC was diagnosed. MO says no more children. I can accept this but want to understand why. Can anyone explain?

I know there is some controversy over whether pregnancy puts you more at risk of a recurrence. It seems like the most recent research shows that pregnancy does not increase your recurrence risk or affect BC survival. For some reason I struggle to believe that. But anyway... I'm guessing your MO was mostly cautioning due to the Tamoxifen... you have to make sure to avoid getting pregnant while taking it because it can be harmful to the fetus.

I was not done having kids (only had one & had been trying for #2 when I was diagnosed) but now I'm in chemopause and may or may not ever regain fertility... but I guess if I have to be on Tamoxifen for 5-10 years that kind of kills any last hope of conceiving! Frown So sorry that you are facing this too.
