When is radiation not needed?

Options

Hi.

Radiologist said radiation is not necessary in this case:

Bilateral breast Ca.

BMX, one side IDC with axilar lympth nodes removal (1 with Ca. out of 8), other side DCSI,with sentinel lympth nodes removal (3 nodes removed, none with Ca.)

Both breast Ca. are ER+/PR+, HRC2-, grade 2.

Treatment: dense chemotherapy (4 AC + 4 Taxol every two weeks)

Radiotherapy not needed.

I wonder why radiotherapy is not needed. If they are right or not.

What were your experiences?

Many thanks.

Generally radiation isn't needed with a BMX.  When the breasts are removed there isn't much left to irradiate.  You can always get a second opinion.  There's lots of information under the surgery threads.  Good luck with your treatments!

I had radiation with a BMX, so it does happen. In my case, tumors were very close to the skin, and the margins were very small. Due to my age, and two children at home, radiation was thrown at it. I also had LVI and am BRCA+, and I believe this played into the decision also.

At the beginning my MO wanted me to have radiation. RO did not think it necessary. The two of them did a phone consult, and both decided it would be in my best interest.
