I spent years using birth control pills until my diagnosis. I am 41 and definitely do not want any more children. My gyn recommended an IUD or essure. Anyone have experience with either of these? Looking for input.

I also was on the pill/patch for many years and had to stop after my diagnosis. I decided on an IUD (Paragard, the copper one with no hormones) and I'm very happy with it. Since you've had children the insertion should be no problem. I've never had children so when the doctor said there would be some "cramping," I didn't know what she meant until she put it in, but it wasn't bad. I don't feel it at all, it lasts for 10 years, and you can have it removed at any time if you don't like it. I think essure is permanent, but I'm not sure. Hope my experience is helpful to you.

I had an IUD an Essure procedure, where the fallopian tubes are blocked with an expanding barrier. The non-hormonal IUD was great but I was suprised how much freer I felt once completely sterile. Didn't even know the fear of unwanted pregnancy was there til it left.
