I was told by my breast surgeon and MO that to prevent a reoccurrence I should limit alcohol to two drinks a week. Is there anyone who drinks more then this a week? I have cut out alcohol except on special occasions. I guess my question is can you have more then 2 drinks at a special occasion? Just curious what others have done.

I am doing the same as you are.  Alcohol only on special occasions.  Then usually only red wine.  I don't think that having more than 2 drinks at a special occasion is going to trigger something in you to cause a recurrance.  If you are abstaining from drinking all the other times, it seems to me that you are doing yourself a lot more good most of the time.  Just my take on it.

im not triple neg but my doc's said no more than a "few drinks" a week and no more than one a day - When they give you a number - for example 2 a week i was told that does not mean you can have both in one day - one per day only.  I have a glass or two of wine on the weekend (and not every wkd) but thats it.  I dont really miss it other than with a nice meal (and im italian so the two go hand in hand!)

My onc told me that there was no problem having a red wine. She told me to drink in moderation. I, like you, only drink (red wine) now at a special occassion ie weddings. I had hen parties for 2 close friends recently and I had a few drinks at them but aside from that I have no interest in drinking. I have a small baby and it's just not worth it the following day :)

I agree with HH Cats. I think for something to have that type of effect to trigger something, that it would need to be more consistent or of a larger quantity.

I used to love having a cold beer at dinner a couple times a week, when we went out, before my bc diagnosis. After my bc diagnosis, I stopped some things cold turkey:  Coffee, Diet Coke and Alcohol.  I thought I would have a drink at Christmas and New Year's and then at 1 year anniversary, etc. ... but based on some reports I read, I just decided it wasn't worth the worry.  Now, we all know that it's beneficial to limit sugar, but I will still have a small amount of low sugar low fat treat.  There's something about the reports on the alcohol that make me think I should not drink it, if I can resist.  For me, it has been very easy for me not to have a drink, which I surprised myself with that one, and Chili's is probably suffering on their P&L now!  My hardest thing to give up, which I really need to is sweets now.  I do think that one time for you, on the alcohol, won't trigger anything.  However, for me, I was worried that one time, would become 'one more time', and then a one beer a week habit, and then I would start to pick up some old habits, so for me, I've just refrained from it.

Limit what you can on all the things you want to limit, but if something is really appealing to you, then I think it would be okay to treat yourself, but I would only do it on a rare occasion and with a very modest amount.
