    Hey everbody,

    I have posted on so many boards on this site, now I can add myself to another.   Just found out Wed 7/3 I tested abnormal for BRCA2.  My med ocno did not use BRCA2 positive he used the word abnormal...  now I am scheduling with a genetics counselor to see what this means for me.   I think at the very least from what I can tell it might mean my having to decide on doing the ooph removal along with the tubes... My husband is so upset with my MO he wants me to switch.. We both think it's a good idea this is the second time before a weekend ( and both coincidentally) holiday weekends that he called to give me less than good news... as my hubby pointed out NOTHING was getting done on this as far as how to proceed yet, and the same result would have been there on Monday! And for anyone who is adopted like me INSIST on being tested young,  I tried to get an old GP years ago to test me, in my early 30's she declined, as she said I did not fit the criteria... and at 44 I came up with BC.  Had I known I would have taken steps years ago, as prevention, or at least much more careful monitoring.

    Quite frankly now, I am much MORE scared to death, of this being, how I will meet my end, that this is my lot in life  and that this will keep coming up, repeatedly as breast or as different cancers...

    Alicia - so sorry for your news and having to join us on this board. I am BRCA1+ and understand your fear. After months of learning of my BRCA status, I look at it this way. There are probably so many other genes out there that contribute to cancer, but we are lucky enough to have identified ours. This gives us the power to have closer monitoring, make better diet and exercise choices, as well as medical choices like an oopherectomy. While being BRCA + sucks, it will hopefully give me the opportunity in a few years to turn my kids into "previvors" rather than have them be cancer survivors.



    Sorry you tried for testing earlier and it didn't happen. As for your MO, it wouldn't have been good news whenever you received it. But if you are not comfortable with him/her, definitely find a new one. Hugs to you and your family as you travel this new and unexpected journey.

    Wow, sorry you got that bad news but at least you know what to do now and taking the precautions that can help you.  I met a great group of FORCE ladies, who are all Brca+ and they are well and living their lives post surgery.  Some had cancer some had the surgery prior.  There is hope and you are doing everything you can by getting the technology involved to get the diagnosis.

    As for your doc - I think he/she is insenstive.  I had BRCA testing.  I got the call on a Friday.  They told me there was no mutation, normal results.  Of course I was happy!  I also told the genetic nurse that I was glad she was calling me with good news on a Friday afternoon.  She said, point blank, if it had been bad news she would not have called on a Friday but waited til Monday so I could be seen immediately.  That is their policy and it's a good one cause it is very hard to get poor news on a weekend when you know nothing about what to do.
