edited June 2014 in Stage I Breast Cancer

I've been around here since March 2007 when I was dx with DCIS.  I went through treatment and did all of the followups.  Yesterday it was confirmed that I had IDC, grade 1 3.6 cms.  I guess that is at least stage 2.  I am shocked.  Treatment for DCIS was fairly straight foward; lumpectomy, radiation and 5 years of tamoxifen.  I am completely uncertain as to what to expect with this.  I know I have to have a mastectomy and I want a bilateral with reconstruction.  Then I have to find out what the final pathology is and where to go from there.  Probably chemo.  Praying that my nodes are clear but even if they are it only improves my statistics and it seems that I have a tendency to end up on the wrong side of them anyway.  I am getting a 2nd (and possibly 3rd) opinion but it really isn't going to change the dx.  I'm going to be overwhelmed with information and choices and advice starting next week.

I'll have to start reading up on mastectomys, lyphedemia, breast reconstruction, chemo, etc.  I know there is good information and support here so I won't feel completely alone.  But I'm terribly sad and disappointed.

So sorry sjack827 - those surprise IDC's are a real kick in the teeth. I have no advice except to say I am sorry and it really sucks. I had a BMX last year so if I can be of any help to you just let me know.  Cyberhug to you.
