I just found out that my oncologist really wants me to do radiation even though I just had a double MX.

Originally i was told if i did the MX I wouldnt need radiation.

Now I'm two weeks out from surgery with TS's and looking at having to radiate.

Anyone do radiation while doing the fills. I'm wondering how long this is going to delay my exchange!

I also had BMX.  And after the surgery biopsy and results,  the medical oncologist discussed with radiologist and they recommended rads.  The radiologist recommended to my ps that I be completely expanded and overfilled the rad side with 10 cc additional fluid prior to rads.  I read that there are basically 5 reasons that rads following a MX would be recommended.  I met 3 of them and I can't remember the other two reasons mentioned.  The ones I remember were having a "close margin" --not have a clear margin following surgery.  Having lymphovascular invasion within the breast as positive and multiple foci tumours.    Of the 3 lymph nodes taken, none were positive.  I will see the plastic surgeon a couple of months after rads and he will evaluate to see when I might be healed enough for the exchange surgery.  For some reason I expect it might take a few months more but we will see.

Did they tell you why they were recommending you for rads?  I had my first rad treatment today.  It included the left side of the neck to about 3 inches underneath the breast and from center of breast cone to and underarm area.

I had a bilateral mx with reconstruction last year and am now undergoing radiation.  I'm very worried about how this will effect my breast/implant in the long run.  I would be very interested in getting some feedback from ladies that have already walked this path.  I like my new boobs more than I ever liked my originals and I hate the idea that radiated one may look different soon.

Erin - I'm not sure what your doc's have planned for you but it was 5 months for me.  That's from the date of my mx, through my fills and finally to the placement of my implants BUT I was not having radiation afterwards.  I would ask, ask, ask especially now that you're 2 weeks out.  They may not have wanted to explain too much too soon after surgery.  I know I was good and doped up after mine and couldn't tell you much of what happened then.  Well wishes to you.
